A brief introduction of Qingdao city

Qingdao has a beautiful scenery and pleasant climate. A harmonious picture of mountains, sea and city is painted in which one can see the winding coastline, islands and beautiful buildings whose red-roofs are held in the embrace of verdant trees. Many of the European-style buildings used to be home to many famous figures.    

Apart from the beautiful scenery of Qingdao, it is also famous for its delicious fresh seafood, Qingdao beer (Tsingtao beer) and it is also interesting to know that the 2008 Olympic Sailing competition was held in Qingdao.Transportation in Qingdao is very convenient to connect both within China and abroad. It has the second largest port in China.

Geographical location

    Qingdao is an Eastern Chinese coastal city located between latitude 35°35’ to 37°09’ and longitude 119°30’ to 121’00. The city faces the Yellow Sea on the east and south.

Facing North Korea, South Korea and Japan across the sea.

Qingdao has a northern temperate zone monsoon climate with the characteristics of a marine climate, such as moist air, abundant rainfall and four distinctive seasons. It is neither hot in summer nor too cold in winter. The annual average temperature is 12.7°C. The hottest month is August with an average temperature of 25℃ and the coldest month is January when the temperature averages 1.3℃.

The total continental coastline in Qingdao is 730.64km and accounts for a quarter of the Shandong province’s total coastal area. The coasts of its Islands add to this area, making the total coast line in Qingdao 862.64km. It passes through thirty-two bays and encircles sixty-nine islands.

Places of Interest
Laoshan Mt
The Mt. Laoshan is the Shandong Peninsula main sierra, the high point lao goes against the elevation 1133 meters. It is a rocky mountain where people go hiking on weekends. It is about 2 hours by bus from downtown.

Zhanqiao Pier
  Zhanqiao Pier, built in 1891, is the symbol of Qingdao. After several restorations, from being a simple military harbor, it is now open to tourists. The pier is 440 meters long. There is an octagonal pagoda of distinctive Chinese style, called “ Huilan Pagoda”, at the end of the pier. From the top, tourists can fully view the Maganificent Sea. Along the shore is the beautiful Pier Park, which is a pleasant and quiet place for tourists to rest or enjoy the scenery of Little Qingdao Island and its white tower.

Beautiful Seashore Boardwalk
The construction of a seashore boardwalk is one of the key project to be completed before the 2008 Olympic Games. The boardwalk is a beautiful scenery route along the coast. Starting from Tuandao in the west, the 40-km-long sidewalk stretches to the ShiLaoRen (Old Stone Man) It is a place weher people can go for walk in their sparetime.Because it is along the No.1 beach.So the Au pair can also go there during the activities for fun and relaxation.    

Catholic Church
Located on Zhejiang Road, the Catholic Church, originally named St.Michael’s, was built by the Germans in 1934. The 60-meter-high building, covering 2470sq.m, is one of China famous Catholic Churches.    

Guest House
  Architecturally reminiscent of a classic German castle. The delicate shape, splendid ornaments, graceful lines and bold colors make The Guest House one of the best examples of nonnumeric villas in China. Originally, it was the official residence of the German governor in Qingdao. In 1934, it was formally renamed “Guest House”, and has become important as a retreat to receive VIPs in military affairs and politics.

Badaguan (Eight Great Passes)
  Lying between Huiquan Cape and Taiping Cape, Badaguan faces the rippling Taiping Bay. In the Badaguan area, more than 200 villas of exotic style were scattered among the lush old-growth flora. There are so many villas that the scenic spot is considered a World Architecture Museum. Criss-crossing the scenic area are ten roads built in 1931 and lined with many varieties of trees including peaches, crabapples, pine trees and ginkgo.
Eight of the roads are named after the eight great passes of the Great Wall, hence the name Badaguan. It is located along the QINGDAO #1,#2 and #3 beaches.People go there in summer to swim,walk and enjoy the cool air because of the numerous trees.
